## Querying This Documentation
This site has an agentic ask interface you may use to query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.topstepx.com/index.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

# TopstepX Help Center

TopstepX is a next-generation futures trading platform built for futures traders. Here, you’ll find detailed documentation on platform features, settings, and step-by-step guides.

TopstepX is fully web-based, with no downloads required—making it easy to trade seamlessly on both desktop and mobile.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FT2jxUkt1B7ohDYgSMyOa%2FGIF%20Recording%202026-03-02%20at%2008.11.46.gif?alt=media&amp;token=e08cfcf5-edff-4dff-a7a5-965691a519fd" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Concurrent Sessions Limit

Exchange regulations restrict the number of the maximum concurrent user sessions to one device (browser).\
\
A user can only be logged in on one device at a time, including PC, mobile, etc. Attempting to log in on a new device will disconnect you from other devices.

Note: you are allowed to have multiple browsers windows open on a single device using 'tabs', so long as it is the same browser version across all, as explained [here](/getting-started/custom-layouts#multiple-windows).

# Custom Layouts

### Create Custom Layouts

You can rearrange the platform's components on your workspace by clicking and dragging the component's header to other areas of your layout or adding it as a tab. Upon clicking and dragging the component, a yellow arrow key tool will appear to guide the placement.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Frp9I39YbxlnkcBQYasY7%2FGIFRecording20260227at14.20.17.gif?alt=media&amp;token=498f11e3-f82f-4218-a5cf-1bdfe66c3d57" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you’ve adjusted the layout to your preference, "draft" will appear next to your layout name. To save the changes made to your selected layout, click the ‘Save Layout’ button in the upper right-hand corner.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F0uxi1gF2FvUjlTjUODHH%2FScreenshot%202026-03-01%20at%2017.26.07.png?alt=media&amp;token=81a5a441-e93c-4609-9ef3-2a1319e9317b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To save the changes made to your layout as a new layout option, click the "Save as New Layout" button in the upper right-hand corner and create a Layout Name.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FWwKA1g52qYIxHxwJ19Ug%2FScreenshot%202026-03-01%20at%2017.26.52.png?alt=media&amp;token=7fb174cb-8324-41c0-8840-f1bb8b42b495" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FkFH01rcIrZerIq1edBSp%2FScreenshot%202026-03-01%20at%2017.27.56.png?alt=media&amp;token=497529ed-dae8-4325-ac6f-ceb221b23647" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Multiple windows

You can pop out multiple windows by clicking the double-square button in the top-right corner. Once a new window/tab opens in your browser, you can maximize individual components (e.g. Chart, DOM, Quotes, etc.) by clicking the square on the top-right corner of the section. There is no limit to the number of windows you can have open at a time.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FuPhtuVBNRZwCEHrrjBLy%2FScreenshot%202026-03-01%20at%2017.29.06.png?alt=media&amp;token=1f77db5f-e5b6-49a7-8dc0-cd39c8c4be81" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Note: due to exchange regulations, you can only have ProjectX open on one device / browser instance at a time. This means if you have it open on a PC, you cannot have it open on your phone. You also cannot have it open on multiple PC's at the same time nor can you have it open on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge at the same time. \
\
However, having multiple 'window tabs' open on a single device (browser) **is** permitted.

### Reset layout

You can reset your layout to the default settings by clicking the "Reset Layout" button in the upper right-hand corner. Clicking "Reset Layout" will return the layout to the default settings.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FKgU9BYfE6aenZTaYvBLr%2FScreenshot%202024-06-22%20at%208.08.37%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=8f1ca5c8-b5fa-4086-b581-f9406d4ed544" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Delete saved layout

You can delete a saved layout by first selecting the layout name in the drop-down that you want to delete. After selecting the layout, click the "Delete Layout" button in the upper right-hand corner.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FwJxUmJCHpQFB2stFRRFf%2FScreenshot%202024-06-22%20at%208.11.16%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=9592e5db-0594-407f-ab5d-59163b52f8ab" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Favoriting Contracts

For quick access to frequently traded contracts, you can favorite the symbol in the contract drop-down. To do this, just click on the star icon located next to the symbol.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FShICFNDSVGHhbF9DEQHe%2FGIF%20Recording%202026-03-02%20at%2009.42.03.gif?alt=media&amp;token=1a19b198-b203-4b91-b2bd-53b696cc183b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Upon favoriting, the contract will automatically move to the top of the contract list in all components. &#x20;

# Linking Components

TopstepX gives you the ability to link components together using a color coding system. You can assign colors to components, and all common links will update at once.

Linking components provides the ability for you to have multiple components all 'linked' to a common symbol; so that when you change your selected symbol in one component (the order ticket for example), the Chart, DOM and Order Ticket all update automatically.

### Create color link (components)

To create a color link with a component, simply click the color link symbol next to each component header. In this example, we are linking our Time and Sales component to the color blue:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F3hN80AfYpM73xXk1b5uR%2FGIF%20Recording%202026-03-02%20at%2009.46.31.gif?alt=media&amp;token=1b46eee5-405c-41c6-a061-a584f321db6f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This component is now sharing the blue link.&#x20;

### Create color link (chart)

To add a color link to a chart, the process is slightly different than adding a link to a component. Color links in TopstepX charts are done via a special 'indicator', called "Link". \
\
To add a color link to a chart simple highlight the chart in question (by clicking it), and then clicking 'Add chart Link' in the top tool bar. Once the you click this, it will add the Link indicator to the chart. Simply expand the indicator list, find the Link and edit the settings to give it the color of your liking:

Note: If you do not see a Link indicator on your chart, make sure and expand the indicator list:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FkBIwRqFAjcVQoOTib1K6%2FGIF%20Recording%202026-03-02%20at%2009.48.52.gif?alt=media&amp;token=b8974c45-63ba-4139-a748-39a3b642b5b2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Now that you have component(s) sharing the common Blue color, any time a symbol change is made to one component with that color, all other components will update to show that symbol!

# Contract Rollover

TopstepX automatically updates to the current front month for all Futures products. This ensures that you are always trading with the correct front month, eliminating the need to monitor contract months or volume during rollovers.

TopstepX 'rolls' contracts during the daily market close window (4pm CST - 5pm CST) using an internal algorithm that determines the best time to roll over active contracts prior to the opening of the trade day. This may be based off open interest, past contract volume, expirations, etc.

# Data Feed

### Exchange License

TopstepX, through its parent company Sim2Funded Solutions, LLC, is a licensed data redistributor from the CME.&#x20;

We maintain our own data feed directly and do not rely on third party connections or providers. This allows us to provide our traders data sourced directly from the exchange(s), unfiltered.&#x20;

### Required Agreements

Upon your first time logging into the platform, you will be required to complete various market data entitlement and platform usage agreements. These include our CME ILA agreement, Non-Pro / Pro self certification, and our market data terms of use.

### Data Centers

The TopstepX primary market data servers are located in Northern Virginia. All traders, regardless of their geographic location, will connect to this region for market data.\
\
TopstepX uses advanced cloud computing technology, including the Amazon AWS global accelerator private backhaul, for connections to these data centers from cloud computing edge locations across the globe. Regardless of this technology, any disruption between the trader's PC and our market data servers are out of our control. Traders are encourage to have the most reliable, hard wired connection possible when using our services.

### Performance

In order to provide the best experience for active professional level day traders, TopstepX is a compute and render intensive web application requiring a moderate to high end machine and fast, reliable data connection. Our data updates at a refresh interval of 50ms on the 'fast', compared to some web based charting / trading platforms who update at 750ms or greater.&#x20;

This can cause issues on slow or under performant machines or for traders located at far distances geographically from our data plants located in Northern Virginia, USA.

If you are experiencing slowness, or chat lag, please take these basic troubleshooting steps:\
\
\- Ensure you are hardwired to a reliable internet connection. Use a website to check your connection quality (not speed test) to USA based servers.\
\- Lower your market data refresh rate to 'Slow'.\
\- Switch to a single chart, with no indicators; only adding indicators and charts if no issues.

# Trading Lock-Out

## Lock-out

The **Lock-Out** feature allows traders to take control of their trading behavior by temporarily locking themselves out from placing trades on their account. This tool is designed to promote disciplined trading and prevent overtrading during periods of high market volatility or emotional decision-making. <br>

Locate the **Manual Lock-Out** button at the top of the trading platform (refer to the screenshot below). Click the button to open the Lock-Out settings modal.\ <br>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F0SibnAtSHoKVlRPHT5vF%2FScreenshot%202026-03-02%20at%2009.51.35.png?alt=media&amp;token=4daf555a-ad86-42f3-8ff5-65103490fe23" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Select a Lock-Out Duration**:

* Choose from the following quick lock-out options:
  * 15 minutes
  * 30 minutes
  * 1 hour
  * All day (until next trading day)
* Alternatively, you can set a custom Lock-Out time to fit your needs

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fy4HpAG3rFsnnZEirMqeN%2FScreenshot%202026-02-27%20at%2014.27.59.png?alt=media&amp;token=6e81d6e6-dd4e-4fd7-ab55-46fbf8d1bc44" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once activated, all open positions will be **liquidated**, and any working orders will be **canceled** immediately upon activation of the Lock-Out. The Lock-Out prevents any further trading on the account until the the specified time has ended.&#x20;

**Countdown Timer**:

A timer will appear at the top of the platform, clearly indicating how much time remains until the lock-out ends (see screenshot below).<br>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F24rLCwh83fH9Ruoo0AEs%2FScreenshot%202026-03-02%20at%2009.53.55.png?alt=media&amp;token=ec16ac2b-4c8d-4a81-84b6-3f7b1fc9da4e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
Once a Lock-Out is enabled on an account, it cannot be reversed. This feature is intended to provide a break from the markets and promote disciplined trading.
{% endhint %}

# Creating Account Nicknames

## Account Nickname

To create an account 'nickname', navigate to the platform's Trading page and click the pencil icon to the left of the account within the account drop-down.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FEc87LCLnfc6ggc8Nh1mM%2FGIF%20Recording%202026-03-02%20at%2010.10.53.gif?alt=media&amp;token=65f6a331-9e22-4126-85a4-ff48c3425784" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Upon creating and saving the account 'nickname', the new nickname will automatically appear across the platform within the account drop-downs, Accounts tab, Trade Copier, and the Performance Stats page.

# Components

Components are individual building blocks within TopstepX that allow you to configure and customize the platform to your exact liking. Components allow for a 'modular' design, giving you total control over the look and feel of the platform.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FWmHc1IyDmOcu0e0NX9pa%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-27%20at%202.19.03%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=947328d8-d1ac-4054-b1c6-6a537473f9c2" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Available Components

ProjectX provides the following components to customize your layout:

* [Positions](/components/positions)
* [Trades](/components/trades)
* [Orders](/components/orders)

* [Quotes](/components/quotes)

To learn how to add components to your layout, review the [Custom Layouts](/getting-started/custom-layouts) page.

# TradingView™ Charts

TopstepX has licensed the TradingView charting library to give traders access to the tools they know and love, without ever having to leave the platform. TopstepX charting by TradingView offers real-time data and advanced technical analysis tools that help traders make smart decisions.&#x20;

With an intuitive interface, customizable indicators, and seamless market integration, they’re perfect for everyone from beginners to seasoned traders alike.&#x20;

It is important to note that third-party TradingView indicators and scripts are not able to be imported into TopstepX at this time. This is due to limitations in their commercial licensing, and out of our control - however we are working closely with our partners to hopefully bring this in the future.

**Warning:** TopstepX uses a proprietary data feed directly sourced from the exchange(s). We provide raw data updates at very fast refresh intervals directly into the charting library. This may cause issues with outdated or slow browsers, which can struggle to keep up. If you experience any kind of delay or lag, please reduce your data refresh speed.\
\
There are (3) data refresh speeds available to choose: Slow *(750ms)*, Medium *(default - 250ms)* & Fast *(50ms)*.

# Regular and Electronic Trading Hours

There are two options for displaying trading sessions for CME Group futures contracts:

* **Electronic Trading Hours (ETH)**: This is the full session for the instrument, based on its official specifications.
* **Regular Trading Hours (RTH)**: This reduced session displays data from 08:30am to 3:15pm CT.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F3IHU5kgIEI26J7CzasiT%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c9115c73-a35d-4595-9dc4-7d49d78d89c3" alt=""><figcaption><p>Extended Trading Hours</p></figcaption></figure>

# News Events

TopstepX will automatically pull in **High Impact** news events and plot them on your charts. This allows for quick access to see when potential marketing making moves may occur. If you click on a marker, you will see the event:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fbx9vBD4wVKLf688j7fxt%2FCapture.JPG?alt=media&amp;token=08770276-1ec7-41e9-99ec-1719d1fbbbff" alt=""><figcaption><p>High Impact news event(s)</p></figcaption></figure>

To remove these marks from your charts, simple right click anywhere on the chart and click "**Hide Marks on Bars"**

# DOM

The DOM (or price ladder) in ProjectX allows traders to see the orders that are accumulating at each price level for a futures contract. The DOM allows traders to see who is in control of the market and at what price they are in control, and act accordingly. It offers 1-click trading, advanced order types, and more.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fsv7Nk6MkIbg0cAz5opne%2F2024-06-23_19-29-41.gif?alt=media&amp;token=09885e50-1a28-4bd6-8f3b-26b16050c3c4" alt=""><figcaption><p>DOM with full Level 2 data</p></figcaption></figure>

# Market Data

### Data Structure

TopstepX uses Explicit Book for market data on the DOM versus displaying an Implied Book.

In futures trading, the implied book and explicit book are two different components of market data that provide information about orders and prices.

**Explicit Book**: The explicit book contains actual orders that traders have directly entered into the market. These are real, visible bids and offers that participants have explicitly placed.

**Implied Book**: The implied book contains synthetic orders based on relationships between different contracts or trading strategies. These orders are not directly entered by traders but are derived from other existing orders, including options strategies.

Key differences:

1. Explicit orders are user-generated; implied orders are system-generated.
2. Explicit orders are directly visible; implied orders are derived.

### Level 1 / TOB

By default, most traders will have Level 1 or 'Top of Book' data only. This provides a single level of market data, showing the best bid and best ask price. While still fully able to trade and make informed decisions, it does lack in full context of the buyers and sellers in the market:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FUDskzNESbmpbFcP09em9%2Fl1.png?alt=media&amp;token=841c5fb7-6373-437e-abed-917c0cb94881" alt=""><figcaption><p>Level 1 / "Top of Book"</p></figcaption></figure>

### Level 2 / DOM

Level 2 data, also known as Depth of Market (DOM) or price ladder, provides more comprehensive market data by displaying multiple levels of bid and ask prices. This allows traders to view the full range of buy and sell orders in the market, offering deeper insights into market depth and liquidity. With Level 2 data, traders can make more informed decisions by understanding the supply and demand dynamics at various price levels. \
\
**Note:** Level 2 is typically an additional add-on ($), please check with your firm:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FmwHsoL08GDi3s5z4Olka%2Fl2.png?alt=media&amp;token=ff350c67-16b0-4c20-ae20-a56e7737cdcc" alt=""><figcaption><p>Level 2 / "Depth of Market"</p></figcaption></figure>

# Components

There are various items that make of the DOM / ladder. Please see below for an overview of each area.

### Price

The **Price** column displays the various price levels at which futures contracts can be traded. Each row represents a different price point, enabling traders to see where they can place buy or sell orders. The prices are arranged vertically, with the market's current price level typically highlighted for easy reference.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FZcQ6evg8apRu5eeY6ex4%2Fprice.png?alt=media&amp;token=336135b7-900e-485a-98a4-239e23a9b10a" alt=""><figcaption><p>Price Column</p></figcaption></figure>

### Bid Size

The **Bid Size** column indicates the quantity of contracts that buyers are willing to purchase at each price level. Each row corresponds to the amount of interest from buyers at the respective price point. This helps traders gauge the market demand and potentially identify strong support levels.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F7RIpqe0abEfYSLVC8Tf0%2Fbid.png?alt=media&amp;token=3c4b4c06-5c5e-4481-a358-a0a93a5b0488" alt=""><figcaption><p>Bid Size Column</p></figcaption></figure>

### Ask Size

The **Ask Size** column indicates the quantity of contracts that buyers are willing to purchase at each price level. Each row corresponds to the amount of interest from buyers at the respective price point. This helps traders gauge the market demand and potentially identify strong support levels.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FQQLAXb0rFsIToswj3n7g%2Fask.png?alt=media&amp;token=1c6a2ef2-4c48-4a78-b144-b94f970855a8" alt=""><figcaption><p>Ask Size Column</p></figcaption></figure>

### Volume Profile

The **Volume Profile** represents the distribution of traded volume at each price level. This profile helps traders identify significant price levels where high levels of trading activity occurred. It provides insights into market sentiment and potential areas of support and resistance based on the volume of contracts traded at various prices.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FKA0dk9kIMOS20oWvdo0N%2Fvol.png?alt=media&amp;token=cd924cc8-1fed-4675-817c-19b5e14aa15e" alt=""><figcaption><p>Volume Profile</p></figcaption></figure>

### My Ask / Bid

The My Ask & Bid columns indicate where you may have working orders. The can be Limit Orders, Stop Orders, Trailing Stops or Take Profit orders.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FosvmrugSCrYqkzX0CUDX%2Fmy.png?alt=media&amp;token=2adc32e9-dc03-4b52-9027-2aee3698131a" alt=""><figcaption><p>My Ask / Bid. # Trading

### DOM / Price Ladder Trading

Traders use a DOM (Depth of Market) or price ladder to visualize the order book of a futures contract. It displays real-time bid and ask prices along with the volume at each price level. Here's a concise explanation:

1. **Bid and Ask Levels:** The price ladder shows different bid (buy) and ask (sell) levels, helping traders identify supply and demand.
2. **Order Execution:** Traders can quickly place, modify, or cancel orders directly from the DOM interface.
3. **Market Depth:** It provides insight into market depth, allowing traders to see the liquidity and potential price movement.
4. **Immediacy:** Enables fast decision-making and order placement, crucial for active trading strategies.

Using a DOM effectively can help traders anticipate price movements and execute trades with precision. The DOM in TopstepX is configurable to your exact needs and allows customization of the visible buttons, layout, look and feel. For an overview of how to customize the look and feel of the DOM, please see [here](/components/dom/settings).

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FHJEZelRIyt5R1R6SWskY%2Fdom1.png?alt=media&amp;token=1905a3e0-24e0-4eff-b731-f48fe93d51f7" alt=""><figcaption><p>DOM Buttons</p></figcaption></figure>

### Limit Order

To place a Limit Order from the DOM, simply left click on either the Bid Size or Ask Size column depending on what side of the market you are trading. In the below example, we are placing a Limit Buy order below the current market price by left clicking on the Bid Size column next to the price we are interested in - indicating we want the price to trade down to that level for execution:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FZ9yMGiWNFYYhEXSzergR%2Flmtb.gif?alt=media&amp;token=b8dab468-0dac-48fa-b616-79c033cd01f4" alt=""><figcaption><p>Limit Buy order</p></figcaption></figure>

### Stop Market order

A Stop Market order in futures trading is an order to buy or sell a contract once the market reaches a specified price — known as the stop price. When the stop price is hit, the stop order becomes a market order and is executed at the next available price. This type of order is generally used to limit losses or to enter a market on a breakout.

To execute a Stop Market order in TopstepX, simply **right click** on the desired price level. In the below example, we are wanting to enter a long position at a price trading above the current price, indicating we are looking for a breakout above that price:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FuKBNx1o4zWLZb5xCUtuD%2Fsm.gif?alt=media&amp;token=9e9322e5-6db2-4327-a4b9-e80a5b6549c5" alt=""><figcaption><p>Stop Market order</p></figcaption></figure>

### Drag / Drop Orders

You can easily drag and drop your resting orders from the DOM by simply hovering over the Qty, waiting for the crosshair icon to show, and dragging up or down to desired new location:

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F8cJLu9zMD9RyJHw5zub0%2Fdrag.gif?alt=media&amp;token=22e402b4-fdc8-4c0c-ae43-65a503da29eb" alt=""><figcaption><p>Dragging resting orders on DOM</p></figcaption></figure>

# Order Card

The Order Card component simplifies placing orders on TopstepX. Traders can select Buy or Sell, Market, Limit, Stop Market, Trailing Stop orders, and options such as Join Bid, Join Ask, Close Position, Reverse Position, Cancel Orders, Flatten All, and Cancel All.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FFBq6pLt1mI3oBvxkcZ6R%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%202.46.06%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=86b5f219-ecf9-4c06-9ec1-2bcd12c1c33f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Trading

## Contract

The contract drop-down selector allows traders to quickly choose and switch between different contracts to trade from the Order Card. To search for a contract, click the drop-down and search the list of available contracts, or click and type the symbol in the contract field.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FC9q3QqaeKPROyouIfmAh%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%203.03.46%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=13c759c5-866f-4fc1-a881-12f197cda52c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For quick access to frequently traded symbols, you can add them to Favorites. To do this, just click on the star symbol located next to the name. When a symbol is added to Favorites, it will appear at the top of the search list in all the component's contract drop-downs.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FcWeUpmZpqmIazw13HIns%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%203.06.17%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=f69fe981-6c06-410b-b2b8-51b561152723" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Order Type

The order type field allows traders to choose from various order types to execute their trades. Traders can select Market Orders, Limit Orders, Stop Orders, and Trailing Stop Orders.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F1okK9n0CVhtuQQYgpeQX%2Fordertype.png?alt=media&amp;token=63521690-e83a-4259-89b6-c31cdb640c9f" alt="" width="339"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Limit & Stop Market Orders

When placing a Limit or Stop Market order, you must enter the order entry price before executing the order.

* Limit Orders:
  * Buying: Ensure the limit price is at or below the current market price
  * Selling: Ensure the limit price is at or above the current market price
* Stop Market Orders:

  * Buying: Ensure the stop price is above the current market price
  * Selling: Ensure the stop price is below the current market price

  <figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FvwyMXnwR7MYlpReiOFBk%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%203.43.58%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=e625855e-46e3-4201-b2c3-8ff067c9e039" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

NOTE:

Limit Orders let you set a specific price to buy or sell. If the market price hits your price, the order is executed, guaranteeing the price but not the execution.

Stop Market Orders execute once the set stop price is reached, ensuring the trade goes through but not at a guaranteed price.

### Trailing Stop Orders

When placing a Trailing Stop Order, you must enter a trailing distance in ticks. This is the amount by which the stop price will trail the current market price. For example, if you set a trailing distance of 10 ticks and have an open long position, if the market price rises (in your favor), the stop price will automatically adjust to stay 10 ticks below the current market price but does not move down.\
\
NOTE: In TopstepX, a Trailing Stop order can be opened *without* having to have a position opened. Once the stop price is triggered, the Trailing Stop order becomes a market order and executes at the best available price.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fd5gZqvm456SVdhjrp0Gt%2Ftrailingstop.png?alt=media&amp;token=c54d0d6c-ebf3-4125-a69c-eab208ac1118" alt="" width="342"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Order Quantity

Traders can adjust the number of contracts they wish to buy or sell using the up and down arrows in the "# of Contracts" field. Alternatively, traders can choose a predefined contract size and adjust the quantity using the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FR9OyFiMeJiVZIZAASWLY%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%204.47.17%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=de43a725-1803-4ba3-813d-ec3ae7df5ce4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Bid / Ask

When a market order type is selected in the Order Type field, the Order Card component will display the current Bid price on the left, the Ask price on the right, the Last Trade Price at the top center, and the Price Change at the bottom center of the contract.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FGDs9utQwhpCQQIWOaoc3%2Fcurrentbid%3Aask.png?alt=media&amp;token=ca279abc-8dc8-4909-a1c7-ef5ce80dc8c6" alt="" width="358"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Account Selector&#x20;

The account drop-down selector allows traders to choose which account to execute the order from. Upon selecting the account, all components on the platform will switch to the account chosen.<br>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FApJ7Nk6R29pbAIuOj9MI%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-24%20at%205.07.16%20PM%20(1).gif?alt=media&amp;token=71ec89f4-c822-43f5-8e5e-abda04e465ed" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Market News Feed

The Market News feed provides up-to-date, real-time information on market developments and breaking news.

### Economic Events Calendar

The Economic Events Calendar provides a detailed, real-time schedule of global economic events and key data releases. The timezone of the calendar is linked to your PC timezone. The calendar is divided into 4 columns:

1. Time and Date: Indicates when the economic event or data release is scheduled to occur.
2. Actual: Shows the real, observed value or outcome of the economic event or data release.
3. Forecast: Displays the predicted or expected value for the event, often based on analysts' or economists' estimates
4. Previous: Lists the last reported value for the same event or data release, providing a point of comparison to assess changes and trends.

The economic events are color-coded based on their importance and overall impact to the markets. Review the meaning of the color codes in the table below:

| Color Code | Level of Impact |
| :--------: | :-------------: |
|     Red    |       High      |
|   Orange   |      Medium     |
|   Yellow   |       Low       |

#### Trading High-Impact News Events&#x20;

{% hint style="danger" %}
When trading during major economic new events, it's important to be aware of the increased risks involved. These events can cause significant market volatility, leading to rapid price movements and potential slippage. This volatility can result in wider spreads and unexpected market reactions, making it more challenging to execute trades at desired prices. While trading around these events can present opportunities, it also increases the risk of substantial losses.
{% endhint %}

# Settings

# Copy Trading

A trade copier allows for efficient management of multiple accounts by ensuring synchronized placement of orders without manual intervention.

Trade Copier Component

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F6rJNJjoOQfc53baM67Cd%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=ec7d0a6f-ccbb-4f1d-a413-074cfb6794f7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## How to Set Up your Trade Copier

To enable the Copy Trading functionality, select a Lead Account before checking which Follower Accounts you would like to include in your copier. After saving, you may confirm that the copy trading functionality is successfully enabled by checking your Accounts in the Header and the Account Selector.

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: Follower Accounts must have a greater than or equal margin / max position size as the Lead Account in order to follow.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FHjZER003H3t83CShcd24%2FGIF%20Recording%202025-06-08%20at%205.57.30%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=9ca0656c-9d7c-4c75-a7b3-0153cb9278d8" alt=""><figcaption><p>Trade Copier Setup</p></figcaption></figure>

## Trading in Follower Accounts

When Copy Trading is enabled, you will not be able to create, close or adjust orders in a Follower Account. This affects all components, including the DOM, the Order component, and the Chart.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FdCKdbfaSqO6Vo340E9UI%2FScreenshot%202024-06-27%20at%202.49.23%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=02d0f79c-e5e0-4be4-bc50-e82a5ee4ce3e" alt=""><figcaption><p>Follower Accounts are blocked from trading</p></figcaption></figure>

To open, close, and adjust orders in the Follower Account, you will need to do so through the Lead Account.

{% hint style="danger" %}
By enabling the trade copier, you acknowledge the following:

* Personal Risk Settings are automatically disabled on Follower Account(s) and stay off until the account is removed from the trade copier and settings are manually re-enabled.
  * **Exceptions: Personal Daily Loss Limit / Personal Daily Profit Target are not disabled on Follower accounts**
* You are responsible for managing all trades executed via the copier.
* Latency or execution timing differences may result in minor discrepancies between copied account balances.
* Clearing the Trade Copier while there are open positions or working orders will result in the immediate liquidation of all such positions and orders across all accounts on the Trade Copier.

{% endhint %}

# Position Brackets

Stop-Loss (i.e., Risk) and Take-Profit (i.e., Profit) bracket orders automatically close a trade at predetermined loss and profit levels, respectively, to manage risk and lock in gains.

## How to Position Brackets

Apply Position Bracket settings to close out the position if the Risk or Profit trigger is hit. To apply the Risk and Profit brackets, enter your Risk and/or Profit dollar-based values. Check the “Automatically apply Risk / Profit bracket to new Positions” box to activate the feature.&#x20;

{% hint style="warning" %}
NOTE: Position Brackets are now enabled on a per-account basis. When setting and saving your Position Bracket settings, they will only apply to the account selected.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Ftipelhg9gMX46dJbkLGt%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-27%20at%2011.03.43%20AM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=77cb5659-d64c-47d2-a1e1-e914a48eed9f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Stop Loss and Take Profit brackets can also be applied to open positions when the default brackets are not enabled. To do this, simply click the position indicator on the chart and drag it up or down to create a TP (Take Profit bracket) or SL (Stop Loss bracket).\ <br>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fc4e0i2Mw0tLacUT1IOib%2FGIF%20Recording%202024-06-27%20at%2010.07.11%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=4602ac01-d86d-4719-b621-adba7a906776" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Bracket Order Types

Risk Bracket Orders are entered as Stop Market Orders; they will execute once the set stop price is reached, ensuring the trade goes through but not at a guaranteed price.&#x20;

Take Profit Orders are entered as Limit Orders; if the market price hits your limit price, the order is executed, guaranteeing the price but not the execution.

# Auto OCO Brackets

Auto-OCO Brackets help enforce your risk plan by letting you configure entry, TP/SL, and multi-target exits for each bracket order.

### What are the Auto-OCO Bracket Orders?

Built for precision, flexibility, and control, these order-based brackets allow you to set take-profit (TP) and stop-loss (SL) orders tailored to each individual trade entry — giving you the power to scale in, scale out, and manage risk per strategy, per account. The Auto OCO brackets will allow your TP/SL orders to be applied per each individual order entry into the market.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FwoUeARV5M8vz2wI70LwU%2FGIF%20Recording%202025-09-21%20at%205.24.10%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=b0560ad2-a3c4-4451-b5f0-6e070521ea76" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### What is the difference between Position Brackets and Auto-OCO Bracket Orders?

<table><thead><tr><th width="190.7578125">Feature Overview</th><th>Position Brackets (Position-Bsed)</th><th>Auto OCO Brackets (Order-Based)</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Ease of Use</td><td><p>Simple, easy to use by default</p><p><br></p></td><td>Designed for advanced control and flexibility</td></tr><tr><td>Scaling In Behavior</td><td>Auto-aggregates TP/SL orders to average entry price when scaling in</td><td>TP/SL are linked to the individual entry order price - no forced averaging</td></tr><tr><td>Scaling Out Behavior</td><td>Automatically cancels matching portion of TP/SL</td><td>Supports multiple TP/SL targets at different price levels</td></tr><tr><td>Stop Order Type</td><td>All Stop Loss orders will be Stop Market order types</td><td>Trailing Stop, Auto Break-even, and Stop Limit orders Coming Soon!</td></tr><tr><td>Saved Bracket Strategies</td><td>1 Setup per account</td><td>Save and name multiple bracket strategies</td></tr><tr><td>Brackets on Working Limits / Stop Orders</td><td>Cannot view the TP/SL orders on working Limit/Stop orders until executed</td><td>Visual overlay of suspended TP/SL before execution</td></tr><tr><td>Risk of Leftover Orders</td><td>None due to auto-cancel logic</td><td>Must manage bracket orders manually</td></tr><tr><td>Best for</td><td>Traders who are looking to set it and forget it - less hands on attention and management of working orders.</td><td>Scalpers and/or traders who want multiple TP/SL orders per individual entry orders and are actively monitoring their working orders.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### How to Enable Auto-OCO Brackets

The Bracket type can be switched from the Settings and/or each order entry component (i.e., Chart, Order Card, DOM)

1. Go to: Settings -> Risk Settings
2. Switch to Auto OCO Brackets
3. Setup and Save Auto OCO Bracket Setup

{% hint style="warning" %}
You must be completely flat before switching bracket types (e.g., Position Brackets vs. Auto OCOs)
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FZLcygURi8GePH7HJdsqR%2FGIF%20Recording%202025-09-21%20at%202.21.40%20PM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=5147c5ba-bc18-4e12-b025-816b267df1ba" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Customizing Your Auto OCO Brackets

Once enabled, the Order Ticket will update with new bracket setup tools:

* Set TP/SL in ticks or $
* Drag & drop TP/SL directly on working Limit and Stop orders
* View TP/SL overlay on DOM before placing the order

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F4EXaAZ9EQD2nM3j7iGB9%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=2da6846f-88c0-44c9-88c9-655e96e23285" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Lock-Out Customizations

## Lock-Out

The **Lock-Out** feature is designed to help traders take control of their trading activity by locking themselves out of trading for a specified duration or trading session. This feature allows you to step away from the markets, maintain discipline, and manage risk effectively.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FZfUG1dsdvkCmUOVYTUAu%2FScreenshot%202025-01-19%20at%205.06.49%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=59a612f0-b923-449d-93a0-a20a14026bcf" alt=""><figcaption><p>Risk Settings</p></figcaption></figure>

Go to the "Risk Settings" tab under "Platform Settings" and locate the **Set Lockout** button (refer to the screenshot above for guidance).

Choose from one of the following pre-defined options:

* **15 minutes**
* **30 minutes**
* **1 hour**
* **All day**

Alternatively, create a **Custom lock-out time** by selecting the end time that suits your needs.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FC3HjIYDjLbvwvf8YR91I%2FScreenshot%202024-11-22%20at%2010.29.05%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=ba3b004e-e0fe-4bb7-9a10-0f11172e45f0" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lock Out </p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FhZPSmnaPZtelxFNk2FcC%2FScreenshot%202024-11-24%20at%208.52.13%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=836ff2a1-87a7-4454-8eff-a50dc977083f" alt=""><figcaption><p>Custom Lock Out End Time</p></figcaption></figure>

### During the Lock-Out

While the Lock-Out is active:

* **Positions and Orders**:
  * All open positions are liquidated, and pending orders are canceled immediately upon activation.
  * No new trades or modifications can be made.
* **Countdown Timer**:
  * A timer at the top of the platform provides a real-time countdown of the remaining lock-out period.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2F3YOeSsoX1n2qppOlIytM%2FScreenshot%202024-11-22%20at%2010.27.53%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=53985a28-abc2-4216-8b59-c4871d675958" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lock Out Timer</p></figcaption></figure>

### Ending the Lock-Out

* The lock-out will automatically end when the selected duration or trading session expires.
* Once the lock-out ends, full trading functionality will be restored.

{% hint style="danger" %}

#### **Note**: Lock-Outs cannot be canceled or reversed once they are activated, so make sure to select your timeframe carefully.

# Personal Daily Loss Limit

A Personal Daily Loss Limit is a risk management tool that allows traders to minimize losses incurred during a trading day.

## Overview

A Personal Daily Loss Limit acts as a risk management tool for traders, defining the maximum allowable financial loss within a single trading day. This predetermined threshold serves to protect the trader's capital from significant downturns in market conditions, ensuring effective risk management and maintaining trading discipline.

## How to Enable a Personal Daily Loss Limit

Apply a personal daily loss limit (PDLL) on net profit and loss calculated in real-time. To enable the PDLL, you must enter a *Personal Daily Loss Limit (PDLL)* value and then select a *PDLL Action*:

1. If **Do Nothing** is selected, then the PDLL functionality is disabled.
2. &#x20;If **Liquidate** is selected, then upon reaching the PDLL, all positions in the account will be liquidated. The action will then be reset to **Do Nothing**.
3. &#x20;If **Liquidate and Block** is selected, then upon reaching the PDLL, all positions in the account will be liquidated, and the account will be blocked from trading until the next trading day.

When the PDLL is correctly enabled, the DLL gauge in your header will be replaced by a PDLL gauge. This gauge will move in relation to your net profit and loss to help you track your daily performance in relation to your personalized daily loss limit.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FQUk12rJSEHldPBXDafiU%2FScreenshot%202025-01-20%20at%209.24.24%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=bb7fbce1-d795-48f1-9c35-ef72453f8b23" alt=""><figcaption><p>Personal Daily Loss Limit</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Note:** When an account is *liquidated and blocked*, it cannot be reversed. The account will be blocked from trading until the next trading day. This feature is intended to provide a break from the markets and promote disciplined trading.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

# Trailing Personal Daily Loss Limit

## Overview

The **Trailing Personal Daily Loss Limit (TPDLL)** is an advanced risk management tool that allows traders to set a loss limit that dynamically adjusts based on their highest reached account balance. When enabled, the TPDLL will move up as the account balance increases but will never move back down, ensuring a trader's risk is managed in real-time as their trading session progresses.

## How It Works

1. **Setting the Limit**

* Traders enter a specific dollar amount as their **Personal Daily Loss Limit (PDLL)**.
* Traders select an action upon reaching the threshold (e.g. Liquidate).

2. **Enabling Trailing**

* Check the **"Enable Trailing"** option for the PDLL to dynamically adjust to trail the highest balance (after activation) the account reaches during the session.

3. **Select Trailing Logic**

* Unrealized Gains = Personal Trailing Loss Limit will trail the highest unrealized profit since enablement.
* Realized Gains = Personal Trailing Loss Limit will trail the highest realized (closed) profits since enablement.

4. **Dynamic Drawdown Protection**

* If the account balance increases, the loss limit automatically shifts up to maintain the same trailing threshold.
* If the account balance declines, the loss limit remains fixed at the last peak, ensuring a controlled drawdown from that high point.
* If the trader's balance falls to or below the set trailing threshold balance, the **pre-selected PDLL action** (e.g., Liquidate & Block) will occur.

### **Example Scenario**

* A trader sets their **PDLL to Trailing $500 based on Unrealized Gains,** action to **Liquidate,** and enables **Trailing**.
* Their account balance at the time the TPDLL was enabled was **$50,500** and later increases to **$51,500**.
* At this point, the TPDLL is now set at **$51,000** (i.e., $51,500 - $500).
* If the account balance drops to **$51,100**, the trailing loss limit remains at **$51,000**.
* If the balance falls to **$51,000 or below**, the selected PDLL action (e.g., Liquidate) will be triggered.

### **How to Enable the Trailing Personal Daily Loss Limit**

1. Navigate to the **Risk Settings** section.
2. Enter a value for the **Personal Daily Loss Limit (PDLL)**.
3. Select a **PDLL Action** (e.g., Liquidate).
4. Check the **Enable Trailing** box&#x20;
5. Select Trailing PDLL Type
6. Save Risk Settings
7. The system will now trail the highest account balance reached after activation.

# Personal Daily Profit Target

The Personal Daily Profit Target allows traders to set a maximum daily profit threshold, helping traders lock in profits and avoid potential losses from overtrading.

## Overview

A daily profit target is a predetermined goal that a trader strives to reach within a trading day. Setting such a target helps traders stay disciplined, focused, and consistent in their trading practices. By setting a Personal Daily Profit Target, traders can better manage their strategies, prevent overtrading, and secure their profits.

## How to Enable a Personal Daily Loss Limit

Profit targets are calculated on net profit and loss and calculated in real-time. To enable the Personal Daily Profit Target (PDPT), you must enter a *Personal Daily Profit Target (PDPT)* value and then select a *PDPT Action:*

1. &#x20;If **Do Nothing** is selected, then the PDPT functionality is disabled.
2. &#x20;If **Liquidate i**s selected, then upon reaching the PDPT threshold, all positions in the account will be liquidated. The action will then be reset to **Do Nothing**.
3. &#x20;If **Liquidate and Block** is selected, then upon reaching the PDPT threshold, all positions in the account will be liquidated, and the account will be blocked from trading until the next trading day.

When the PDPT is successfully enabled, a PDPT gauge will show in the header. This gauge will move in relation to your net profit and loss to help you track your daily performance in relation to your personalized daily profit target.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FOY82dfQLducD2DBOOoXL%2FScreenshot%202025-01-20%20at%209.24.49%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=017aa1a0-54a8-4af8-8afc-3fa011134173" alt=""><figcaption><p>Personal Daily Profit Target</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Note:** When an account is *liquidated and blocked*, it cannot be reversed. The account will be blocked from trading until the next trading day. This feature is intended to provide a break from the markets and promote disciplined trading.
{% endhint %}

# Symbol Block

Symbol Block allows you to block symbols from being traded on your account. Once a symbol is blocked, you will no longer be able to place orders for that symbol until it is manually unblocked.

## How to Block a Symbol

1. Go to your **Account Risk Settings**
2. Scroll down to the **Symbol Blocks** section
3. Click the dropdown and **select or search** for the symbol you want to block (e.g., `/ES` for the S\&P 500 E-mini)
4. Click **“Add Block”**
5. Click "**Save"** to save your settings
6. The symbol will now appear in the **Current Symbol Blocks** list

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fz3G8dlYELay6vv6KXvsH%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=6228cd87-6104-4c0f-8a7b-d998824a23dc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Contract Limits

Contract Limits let you control exactly how many contracts your account can trade at once. Set personalized limits on a symbol to manage risk and avoid overexposure.

## What Are Contract Limits?

Contract Limits let you decide how many contracts your account is allowed to trade at one time per symbol. You can:

* Set Per-Symbol limits for more customized control

<figure><img src="https://lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com/docsz/AD_4nXecxiYmhcogc7YB78BUcCUXk2oMK6UP6zksfpZCmzHRTZCPbtIQBH3zGYtq-uHHrD0LDaF5RoA--GTmUL576WD0B1bJAZJpFo4sGOMYRP-XMSAdWoID-e2Nk636uv34FgulMjkBiw?key=hPqSKK8xXeQChMV-Btgb7acw" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## How do Contract Limits work?

* The system checks your **open positions + working orders on each side of the market (buy/sell).**
  * The Contract Limits applies independently per side (buy/sell)
* If placing a new order would exceed your set limit on either side, the system will reject the order.
* ProjectX bracket orders (Take Profit / Stop Loss) do not count toward your contract limit.
* The account’s maximum position size can never be exceeded

## How to Set Contract Limits

1. Go to Settings → Risk Settings page
2. Find Contract Limits section:
   1. Symbol contract Limit
3. Enter your desired limit(s) per symbol
4. Save your settings - you're all set!

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FMwG846SxugX2gY1htv4X%2FGIF%20Recording%202025-07-05%20at%2011.40.49%20AM.gif?alt=media&amp;token=56edd62d-0fff-4f57-b082-c1fbdcf6d180" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Examples:

**Contract Limit:** 3 NQ contracts\
**Account size:** 50K (max position 5 minis / 50 micros)

* Trader places 2 NQ Buy Stops working (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 1 NQ Buy Market with TP/SL orders (Accepted)
* THEN trader attempts to place another NQ Buy Limit for 1 contract (Rejected = over 3 NQ buy side limit)

**Result:**

* Buy-side total =  2 Buy Stops + 1 Market Buy = 3 contracts
* Sell-side total = 0 contracts

***

**Contract Limit:** 3 NQ contracts and 3 ES Contracts\
**Account size:** 50K (max position 5 minis / 50 micros)

* Trader places 3 NQ Buy Stops working (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 1 NQ Buy Market with TP/SL orders (Rejected = max contract size NQ exceeded)
* THEN trader buys 3 ES Buy Stops (Accepted)
* THEN the 3 working ES Buy Stops are filled (Accepted)
* AND when the NQ market reaches the NQ Buy Stops prices, the order will be rejected and removed from working due to exceeding the maximum margin (i.e. max position size)

**Result:**

* NQ Buy-side total =  3 contracts
* ES Buy-side total = 3 contracts

**Note:** Since the trader had both 3 ES and 3 NQ working on the Buy side but the account’s max position size is 5, the first will be filled and accepted while the other would be rejected due to exceeding the account’s max position size.

***

**Symbol Contract Limit:** 3 NQ contracts and 3 ES contracts\
**Account Size:** 50K (max position 5 minis / 50 micros)

* Trader places 2 NQ Sell Limits working (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 2 ES Buy Stops working (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 2 ES Sell Limits working (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 1 ES Buy Market (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 1 NQ Market Sell with TP/SL orders (Accepted)

**Result:**

* ES Buy-side total =  3 contracts
* ES Sell-side total = 2 contracts
* NQ Sell-side total = 3 contracts

Total Open positions = 2 contracts

***

**Contract Limit:** 5 ES contracts and 6 NQ contracts\
**Account Size:** 100K (10 minis / 100 micros)

* Trader places 4 working ES Buy Stops (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 1 ES Buy Market with TP/SL orders (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 5 working ES Sell Limits (Accepted)
* THEN trader places 6 NQ Sell Market (Accepted)
* THEN trader attempts to Buy 1 ES Market (Rejected = over buy side 5 total limit)
* THEN Trader Sells 1 ES Market (Accepted, reducing buy side ES total to 4)

**Result:**

* Buy-side ES exposure = 5 contracts then reduced to 4 after the final sell market order:\
  When trader enters 5 Sell Limits, they would get accepted (5 total sell side)

When trader enters Buy 1 Market - they would get rejected (exceeds

* When traders Sells 1 ES Market accepted since it reduces the open buy side total to 4 total ES since they were long 1 and had 4 working
* NQ Buy-side total = 6 NQ
* NQ Sell-side total = 0 NQ contracts

\
**Note:** If the market reached the trader’s working 5 ES sell limit (all at same price), the order would be rejected due to the account’s max position size of 10 contracts since they already have an open 6 NQ position.

# Trade Limits

The Trade Limits feature allows traders to set limits on the maximum number of trades they can execute per day or per week.

When a Trade Limit is enabled, a countdown will display on the Risk Settings page, allowing you to track the number of trades remaining.<br>

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FOt3XoqCUs1IPMks6HyRN%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=238f0f7c-bc17-406f-b573-a97e2d09cc75" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Important Notes:&#x20;

* If you reach the set trade limit for the day or week, the platform will block opening new positions and new orders **- this cannot be reversed.**
* If you reach the set trade limit for the day or week and you have an open position, then you will only be allowed to create Take Profit / Stop Loss orders, Breakeven orders or Flatten All / Cancel All.
* A notification will alert you that your trade limit has been reached and the Lock Out Timer will appear on the header of the platform.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2FfNg1CNmarDFBnFNuY8c7%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=f4258c83-a7bd-4feb-b552-8c5d0533c45c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
Important: Any pending orders placed prior to hitting the limit must be manually cancelled. TopstepX will not automatically remove pre-existing pending orders upon a trade limit lockout.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
Warning: Trade Limits are ignored on Follower Accounts when included in the Trade Copier.
{% endhint %}

# Lock Risk Settings

The Lock Risk Settings feature allows traders to secure their risk parameters for the remainder of the trading day, preventing any modifications until the next trading session begins at 5 PM CT.

## Locked Risk Tools

When the **Risk Settings Lock** is enabled, the following risk management features will be locked and cannot be adjusted:

* **Personal Daily Loss Limit (PDLL):** Prevents changes to your Personal Daily Loss Limit.
* **Personal Daily Profit Target (PDPT):** Ensures your Personal Daily Profit Target remains fixed.
* **Daily/Weekly Trade Limits:** Locks your Daily/Weekly Trade Limit.

Once these settings are locked, traders will not be able to modify their risk parameters for the current day. However, traders will still have access to:

* **Default Brackets:** Traders can modify their default brackets.
* **Personal Lockout Feature:** The ability to manually lock themselves out of trading if needed.

### How to Enable the Risk Settings Lock

#### Important Notes

* **Irreversible Until Reset:** Once enabled, the risk settings will not be unlocked until the next session.
* **Plan Ahead:** Ensure your risk parameters are appropriately set before activating the lock.
* **Compliance & Discipline:** Using this feature helps enforce personal risk management discipline and prevents emotional decision-making.

# Trade Clock

The Trade Clock feature helps traders maintain discipline by preventing from adding new orders to their existing trades for a set period, while still allowing to manage and exit the open trade.

## **How the Trade Clock Works**

When enabled, the **Trade Clock** prevents traders from entering new orders related to their existing trade. However, traders will still have the ability to manage their open positions by adjusting or closing them. This feature is ideal for those who want to follow a structured trading plan and avoid impulsive decisions.

#### **Key Features:**

* **Prevents new order entries:** Traders cannot add new positions or orders
* **Manage open positions:** Traders can still modify and exit existing trades
* **Configurable time intervals:** Select from predefined or custom time durations

### **How to Enable the Trade Clock**

The Trade Clock can **only** be enabled when there is at least one **open position and/or working order** in the market. Follow these steps to activate it:

1. **Navigate to Risk Settings:**
   * Open the platform settings.
   * Go to the **"Risk Settings"** tab.
2. **Set a Trade Clock Timer:**
   * Select from available time options (e.g., **1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 10 min, or custom.**)
3. **Enable Trade Clock:**
   * Click on **“Enable Trade Clock.”**
   * A confirmation modal will appear, summarizing the lock period and restrictions.
4. **Confirm Activation:**
   * Click **“Enable Trade Clock”** to proceed.

<figure><img src="https://2549854448-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Ffj55gt7IahlmBVVgmbnQ%2Fuploads%2Fm6CYEVHNXdCZ5rH0Er22%2FScreenshot%202025-01-22%20at%201.29.28%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=0ec7ac59-8b7c-460a-b253-86e9a6d3fd78" alt=""><figcaption><p>Trade Clock</p></figcaption></figure>

### Managing Trades While the Trade Clock is Active

Once the Trade Clock is enabled:

* Traders **cannot** add new positions or orders until the timer ends
* Traders **can:**
  * Add or modify stop-loss and take-profit orders
  * Flatten or exit their current positions
  * Cancel existing working orders

#### **Important Notes**

* The Trade Clock is **irreversible** once enabled, meaning it will remain active for the selected duration or until the active position and/or orders are closed/cancelled.
* A warning message will be displayed before activation, ensuring traders are aware of the restrictions.
* If there are no active trades or working orders, the Trade Clock cannot be enabled.

# Charts & Data

# Data Update Speed

TopstepX provides 3 data refresh speeds for you to choose from:

* Slow (750ms)
* Medium (default - 250ms)&#x20;
* Fast (50ms).

We pipe exchange data updates at very fast refresh intervals directly into the TradingView charting library, via your web browser. This may cause issues with outdated or slow browsers, which can struggle to keep up with these updates.&#x20;

If you experience any kind of delay or data lag on your charts, please reduce your data refresh speed & consider reducing the amount of indicators / drawings shown.

Please note: chart refresh lag does *not* effect trading and orders, as all trading and order execution occurs in our server side order engine. Traders are advised to monitor their [Positions tab](/components/positions) at all times.
